Helping You Keep the Bugs Away from Your Pets

Heartworm & Parasite Preventive Care at Kryder Veterinary Clinic Parasites come in many forms and can affect animals of all ages and species. We can help create a protocol to prevent and treat the bugs that are bugging your pet.

Heartworms

The Granger, Indiana, region is an endemic area with a high prevalence of heartworm disease. These blood-borne parasites are spread by mosquitoes and infect both dogs and cats (though they can cause very different problems in cats). We strongly recommend year-round heartworm prevention for all dogs and cats (yes, even indoor pets).

Intestinal Parasites

Roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, tapeworms, coccidia, and Giardia are among the most common parasites. Many of these can be prevented with monthly heartworm preventives—another reason we recommend year-round heartworm prevention.

In addition to prevention, we also recommend annual fecal testing for all dogs and cats. If your pet spends a lot of time at one of our local doggie day cares or dog parks, semi-annual testing may be recommended.

External Parasites

Fleas, ticks, and other pests can be a major health concern. They can cause skin disease, blood loss, and transmit infectious diseases. We can recommend a product best suited to your pet’s individual needs.
